Welcome to The Greasy Fork

June 10, 2008

It has long been our dream to produce a single source for biscuit and gravy lovers to go and find where the best eateries in Rockford are for this heavenly food.

While some don their business suits and set off for the fancy, shmancy places to get their breakfast—such as IHOP, Denny’s, and Perkins—we know that the average working man only eats his breakfast in establishments where he can seat himself.

What do these hardy, robust men eat? Biscuits and Gravy.

This is truly the breakfast of champions and a staple of any man’s diet who hasn’t yet been told by the doctor that he has blockage in his arteries. It is the food that sticks to a mans ribs, and to the roof of his mouth. Men have been known to have made this their last meal before fasting for weeks as they know it will stay with them for the majority of that time.

We decided that it was time for experts in this culinary masterpiece to periodically review this fine food at eateries around the Rockford, Illinois area. This does not mean that we won’t review biscuits and gravy when we travel outside of Winnebago county, but our goal is to provide the residents of this fine blue-collar city a single place to share with us in the love of those who craft this simple meal from flour, milk, grease, and little bit of pork.

Bon appetite.

  1. I’ll follow with interest. It’s so encouraging to know that Rockford is graced with such quality citizens who are willing to serve us so practically. However, I am a bit concerned about the procedures: will you have a standardized approach to your analyses or will it be purely subjective? And (if it is indeed subjective) are you men stable enough to show equanimity in your judgment?

In other words, will you be able to be fair with a quality plate of biscuits and gravy even if the waitress left finger prints on your orange juice glass?
